Electric scooter incident

Crime incident reported: 27 January 2021:

Young male in 20s travelling uphill on an electric scooter, on the same footpath as a man who was walking down the hill towards Portswood, between midday and 1 pm.  The foothpath was narrow and, when their paths crossed, the electric scooter rider did not give way by going into the roadway, as expected. The road had no traffic at the time.  If the man had not stepped aside, there would have been a serious incident.  This incident was reported to the police together with a request for greater enforcment of the law with regard to electric scooters.

Note:

Currently, you can buy an e-scooter but you cannot ride it on a UK public road, cycle lane or pavement. Anyone who does is committing an offence.

The only place an e-scooter can be used is on private land, with the permission of the landowner.
