A glimpse inside St Mary’s, South Stoneham

A glimpse inside St Mary’s, South Stoneham.
I mentioned a few days ago that we hosted a visit by a Church historian back in 2017. After visiting St Julians, we went on to St Mary’s at South Stoneham. The church lies in a secluded position off Wessex Lane, near the north-eastern edge of Southampton, and is almost hidden in the Southampton University accommodation campus. Parts of the building date from the Norman period and the chancel arch is 12th century.
There is a great deal to see inside, but unfortunately I don’t seem to have taken many photos!
The Church was kindly opened for us on request. It is closed at present, but in normal times, holds a number of services open to visitors. You might like to check their website : https://www.swaythlingparish.org.uk/
