A great explanation of the design of The Avenue

It is not clear whether this car was entitled to park here (no such thing as yellow lines in those days) but it perfectly illustrates the fact that the left hand lane of the Avenue was for both north and south traffic with tramlines in the middle. The right hand lane was a private access road – literally the ‘Inner Avenue’.
