E-scooter trial launches in Southampton

From today (Thursday 18 March), residents and visitors in Southampton, including those in Highfield, will be able to rent a Voi e-scooter to move around the city for essential journeys. Southampton is one of a number of locations across the Solent to be taking part in the trial, funded by the Department for Transport Future Transport Zone.

The 50 Voi e-scooters are spread across the city with initial parking racks near Southampton Central Station North, the SeaCity Museum, at Guildhall Square, by the University of Southampton and the Highfield Campus. At just £1 to unlock then 14p per minute, they are perfect for making short, greener journeys across the city. NHS staff and Emergency Services can rent for free in lockdown, simply by going online and uploading a NHS, blue light or defence discount service card.

The e-scooters are available to over 18’s holding a full or provisional driver’s licence from 6am – 10pm daily.  They are limited to 10mph for rider safety and slower speeds in slow-ride zones.
