HRA News Bulletin – April 2014

  • The Vice Chair gave a report on his meeting with the Hilliers Gardens, Head Gardener, with Claire Gilbert the Students Union VC, as part of the joint HRA/Southampton University Students Union (SUSU) Building Bridges project.
  • Following this, it has been decided to hold a “Highfield in Bloom” gardening competition with the aim of encouraging Students and Residents cooperation and engagement to commence in September/October, and to be judged in the Spring.
  • There is to be another launch event at the SUSU in September which is likely to be in the format of a “Community Curry night”.
  • Details of the proposed HMO survey were presented by Simon Hill and it is hoped the Council will assist by allowing an integrated pooling of information, ideally using the Ordnance Survey mapping system. The assistance of new members from Northcote Road and Donnington Grove was particularly welcomed. There is to be an interactive mapping survey available on our new website as soon as it goes live.
  • The HRA initiative was supported by both Ward Councillors present, who also serve on the Scrutiny Panel. It is hoped there will be an interim report published shortly.
  • Final details for the AGM on Thursday 24th April were outlined.
  • The Secretary gave the monthly Planning report.
  • Picnic on the Little Common: details were given of this proposed event to be held on Sunday 1st June.
  • Concerns raised about permitted lorry routes for deliveries to local supermarkets being ignored, would be looked into by our Ward Councillors.
