Jane Austen & Southampton Spa with Cheryl Butler

Dr Cheryl Butler is a renowned local historian who specialises in all things Jane Austen. Book your ticket via Eventbrite and join us via ZOOM and learn all about this much loved author and her time spent in our city.
Jane Austen & Southampton Spa reflects on Austen’s literary works and themes which may have been influenced by her time in Southampton. It also explores her letters and their references to her friends, relatives and favourite places in the area.
Dr Cheryl Butler is the author of many historical books and papers and a long-term member of the Jane Austen society. She is an experienced public speaker who will be generously sharing her extensive Austen knowledge with us.

CB Butler is a renowned local historian who has been awarded for her services to heritage. Book your ticket via Eventbrite and join us via ZOOM and hear about her latest novel that draws on Southampton’s rich history.
Elizabeth I’s privateers are called into service to save England from its greatest peril. For Richard Mudford a poor boy from the Shambles, it’s an opportunity to get rich, even if he has to gamble his soul, his family and his life. An epic tale set in Southampton during the reign of Elizabeth I and based on historic documents held in the local archives. Many of the sites mentioned in the novel still exist and can still be visited – this story is also the story of our city!

We are having a social evening and you’re all welcome!

We are asking you to BYOB (Bring Your Own Book) so we can share inspiration we have found between the pages of our favourite books.
The session will run for 1hr max and we do look forward to seeing you there.

We are now closed to passing trade but are still accepting customer orders for books that we have in stock and food and other ethical products. 

We are also offering free delivery in the SO17, SO18, SO14 and SO15 postcodes so if you are in need of a good read, ethical food & munchies or home & cleaning supplies do let us know. Someone will be in store to process orders Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10am-4pm
