Shocking incident in Portswood at 7.45 am today (16/10) where an elderly and blind woman was hit by a car. Appeal for witnesses

A particularly shocking incident happened in Portswood at approximately 7.45 am today at the entrance to the Portswood car park on Westridge Road, where an elderly and blind woman was hit by a car. Police are investigating. If anyone was in the area at the time and saw anything, please either post a comment on Facebook, message us, or email us on: highfieldracomms@gmail.com. We will pass all messages on. Here is the background to this awful incident which has come from her daughter:
“URGENT…. In the early hours of this morning at approx 7.45, my mother, who is blind and elderly, was waiting to cross the entrance of Portswood car park on Westridge Road. Having heard a car or van approach, she stopped and after a couple of minutes continued to cross as the vehicle was at a standstill. When she started walking the vehicle hit into her and knocked her to the ground and drove off. The details are vague as she is blind but is trained to walk with a cane and takes this route every day. The police are looking into CCTV footage in the area but chances of finding this monster of a human is slim. I therefore am reaching out to see if anyone was in the area at the time and may have seen anything. She has been taken to hospital and luckily is stable. I’d really appreciate any information anyone may have to help find this disgusting human being.”
