The latest news on the Southampton ‘City of Culture’ bid 2025

The Whole Region Backs the Bid
Our bid is now backed by over 100 organisations including 42 city-wide civic institutions, businesses and education organisations, the city’s cultural sector  and by 9 neighbouring local authorities.On Monday 19th July we submitted our Expression of Interest to the department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). This is the first formal step in the process to becoming UK City of Culture 2025. A longlist of six cities will be announced in September and invited to submit a full application. In March 2022 three cities will be shortlisted and visited by the judging panel with the winner announced in May. We will keep you updated and thank you all for your support so far.

Meet the Our Time Winners
We are so pleased to announce the winners of the OUR TIME programme.

OUR TIME is a talent development programme pilot supporting young artists and creatives in Southampton. Ten young people aged 18-25 years have been awarded a £500 bursary to develop their creative practice.

3 new Ambassadors join the bid
We are pleased to announce we have added to our wonderful ambassadors and welcome Indian musician, composer, producer and actor Zakir Hussain. Joining him is actor, writer, presenter, broadcaster and parliamentarian, Baroness Floella Benjamin. We have also announced Dame Wendy Hall, Regius Professor of Computer Science and Executive Director of the Web Science Institute at the University of Southampton.

Paris Smith LLP become our latest Premier Partner
We are delighted to announce Paris Smith LLP as our latest Premier Partner, showing their commitment to the UK City of Culture bid and beyond. They join toob, who were announced as the first Premier Partner in September last year.
