Memory Cafés in Highfield and in Bitterne Park are proving popular!
Here is what organisers Katherine Barbour and Ros Simpson say about them. To follow up, their contact details are below.
“Across Highfield, Portswood, St Denys and Bitterne Park, services for people living with dementia have been making a positive impact.
The memory café in Highfield Church Centre has been so popular that it is moving to twice monthly from February 2022. It will be on the first and third Tuesday of each month from 2pm to 4pm, I.e. 1st and 15th February 2022.
A memory café started at the Ascension Church in Bitterne Park and meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 3pm to 4.30pm. In February, the service will meet on 9th and 23rd February 2022.
There is no referral process, everyone with any memory difficulties is welcome. At the café there is an occasional speaker, time to talk to other carers, the volunteers and to have a cup of tea and some home made cake. The photos below show the output from a session that was held with the Mayflower Theatre Community engagement team to create resources around childhood memories. This was exhibited at the Mayflower Theatre when Peter Pan was being shown in December 2021.
