Roadworks in Burgess Road in July and August

Dear Resident/Occupier

Burgess Road Structural Patching and Micro-asphalt Works – The Avenue to Glen Eyre Road

Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with Southampton City Council to manage the highways service across Southampton. As part of this, works have been programmed to improve the carriageway of Burgess Road from The  Avenue to Glen Eyre Road

As part of these improvements, it is proposed to carry out a micro-asphalt surfacing treatment to the carriageway. However prior to the new surface being laid it will be necessary to carry out some structural patching repairs to the worst affected areas of the carriageway, including the entrance to “The Cloisters”.

The work is scheduled to commence as follows:

Structural Patching – Monday 25th July for 1 day between 07:30 and 16.30.

Micro-asphalt Surfacing Treatment – Sunday 21st August (1 night duration) between 21:00 to 06:00. A further leaflet and traffic signs will provide advance warning.

The works are subject to favourable weather conditions and heavy rain may necessitate a postponement of the works. We will endeavour to stick to the proposed schedule as closely as possible.

During both structural patching and micro-asphalt work, Burgess Road will be closed to traffic, with only limited access to residents and the emergency services in Burgess Road and The Cloisters. We would kindly ask for your patience whilst the work is being carried out. If you require vehicular access, our operatives will do their utmost to accommodate you, however, there may be a short delay or diversion to ensure vehicle movements can be carried out safely.

The equipment we use means some disturbance is unavoidable, but we will make every effort to minimise any unnecessary noise.  Furthermore, those working on site are briefed on working responsibly in the local community.  We expect staff to be considerate, polite and courteous at all times.

Please note, for health and safety reasons, pedestrians are not permitted into the segregated works area, if you require access please speak with a  site marshal.

Should you have any queries or concerns about the works, please contact Actionline by email at actionline@southampton.gov.uk. If you experience any difficulties during the resurfacing or require assistance in getting to or from your property, please speak to the site foreman who will be happy to assist.

Yours faithfully

Matt Dyer
