BE AWARE – Drivers purporting to have broken down

On 1st July 2016, Female was driving onto the M3 Slip Road at Twyford, was flagged down by a driver on the hard shoulder. She decided to help, but the male got into her car and wanted money supposedly for fuel. She handed him over reluctantly money before he threw some jewellery at her and got out of the vehicle. She had by then parted with £80.
The victim described the male as dark skinned, stocky build, around 5’7”tall. Wearing a dark suit and white shirt.
She stopped thinking she might be able to help, and she would like to warn other motorists of this type of Scam.
Message from Hampshire Constabulary, if you are alone in your vehicle and think someone on the motorway is in need of assistance you can call when safe to do so Hampshire Police on 101. Please be aware of this type of scam, using intimidation to get money, claiming to be for Fuel. Hampshire Police are aware this type of tactic has been used in the past and other locations around the country.
Thankfully the lady concerned was unharmed, she would like everyone to be made aware, of this type of Scam.
