Southampton City Council Consultation on draft Green Infrastructure and Biodiversity Strategies

Dear consultee,

We have launched our external consultation on our draft Green Infrastructure Strategy and Biodiversity Strategy.  We would greatly appreciate your comments and feedback on these two important strategies.

Southampton City Council declared a Climate Emergency in 2019. In its Green City Plan 2030, it made a commitment to create a greener, healthier, and more sustainable city that is better adapted to the various challenges arising from climate change. The Corporate Plan 2022/30 sets a further ambition for our city to have an increased amount of connected, good quality green space.  The Green Infrastructure Strategy and Biodiversity Strategy are designed to help the Council to address the commitments in those plans, as well as meeting our new statutory obligations under the Environment Act 2021, including a strengthened Biodiversity Duty (focused on conserving, restoring and enhancing habitats and species populations) and a requirement to secure at least 10% Biodiversity Net Gain from planning developments.

Please click on this link to read the draft strategies and provide your consultation comments: Consultation on draft Green Infrastructure and Biodiversity Strategies (southampton.gov.uk)

The consultation will run until 4th October 2023, after which time, the feedback we receive will be analysed and your valuable comments used to help finalise both strategies. With approval, both strategies will be adopted by the council either the end of this year or early 2024.

Many thanks
