Local elections Thursday 2 May

From SCC’s ‘City News’ 22/3/24; information on the local elections:

“On Thursday 2 May residents in Southampton will go to the polls to have their say on who represents them as well as who will be the Police and Crime Commissioner for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary area.

You must be registered to vote by Tuesday 16 April to take part.

There are a number of ways to have your say – you can vote at a polling station, by post or by appointing someone you trust to vote on your behalf, which is known as a proxy vote.

Following the introduction of new rules last year, you will need to show photo ID when voting at a polling station.

Our Voter ID webpage lists which photo IDs are accepted, and, if you don’t have a photo ID, can help you apply for a free voter ID, or a postal or proxy vote if that is your preference.

The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on 17 April, while the deadline to apply for a proxy vote or to apply for a free voter photo ID is 5pm on 24 April.
