Southampton Demonstrations – KINS Community Contact update from A/Inspector Richards, Southampton North Neighbourhood Policing Team – 26 August 2025

“To Our Key Individual Network,

A planned protest took place outside the Highfield House Hotel on Friday 22nd August 2025. A visible police presence was maintained throughout to ensure public safety and minimise disruption.

Local businesses were informed in advance, operated as usual, and no concerns were raised during or after the events.

In preparation for the protest the hotel management implemented a proportionate and preventative measure by installing temporary fencing around the perimeter of the hotel and rear car park, this helped to clearly define the boundary between public and private land. The fencing was respected throughout the protest.

As reminder, entering private land without permission and refusal to leave when asked may constitute civil trespass. While typically a matter for the landowner, police may intervene if individuals become aggressive, threatening, or commit any offences. Any such incidents would be assessed based on the level of threat, harm, and risk at the time.

We urge the community and our partners to report any ongoing concerns or incidents of note so they can be appropriately addressed.

If you have any information or concerns, please contact us via:

  • Online reporting
  • 101 (non-emergency)
  • 999 (emergency only)

We appreciate your willingness to work with us, and we are equally committed to ensuring protests remain lawful and peaceful — and do not escalate into criminality.

Kindest Regards
