Southampton Demonstrations – Key individual networks (KINS) update: from A/Inspector Richards, Southampton North Neighbourhood Policing Team – 13 October 2025
Posted by Highfield Residents' Association on Oct 13, 2025 in News | 0 commentsDear KINS,
Last week, two further demonstrations took place across the city, both of which saw attendance from opposing groups.
Wednesday’s Event:
Approximately 40 protestors and counter-protestors gathered. Two arrests were made, and strict bail conditions were imposed, prohibiting those individuals from attending future protests at either the Civic Centre or Highfield House.
Friday’s Event:
The protest outside Highfield Hotel drew approximately 50–60 counter-protestors and 30–40 protestors. All groups had dispersed by approximately 1930 hours. No arrests were made, and no complaints were reported at the time. However, any subsequent complaints will be thoroughly investigated, and we will take firm action, including pursuing judicial outcomes where appropriate.
We recognise that Article 10 of the Human Rights Act protects the right to freedom of expression, which may include speech or behaviour that some find offensive, shocking, or distressing. However, this protection does not extend to criminal behaviour. There is a clear distinction between lawful protest and unlawful conduct, and we will continue to take robust action against anyone who crosses that line.
Our priority remains the safety of all individuals, upholding the law, and supporting the right to peaceful protest. We will continue to work closely with our communities and partners to ensure future events are managed safely and respectfully.
We encourage our community and partners to report any concerns or incidents through the channels below. Early submission of evidence—such as statements, photographs, or video footage—can be crucial in supporting prosecutions. Video evidence can be shared via a DEMS link, which we can provide upon request.
To report information, evidence, or concerns, please use:
