Friends of Southampton Old Cemetery are celebrating the 180th Anniversary of the opening of the Old Cemetery on 10 May 2026, and are seeking volunteers to assist with the event!

The event is from 10:00 to 16:30 on Sunday 10th May 2026.

While FoSOC members will also be present to assist, they are reaching out for additional help given the range of activities planned.

Friends of Southampton Old Cemetery (FoSOC) are organising a full day of activities, including a variety of musical performances, a talk in the Non-Conformist Chapel by Geoff Watts, and two guided walks. They are seeking lots of volunteers to help ensure the smooth running of the day. Here are some examples below.

Stewards for Walks: Volunteers are needed to act as stewards during the walks, helping to keep the group together and assisting those who may wander or fall behind. The walk will be approx. 1 hour.

They will also require someone(s) to monitor the door of the Anglican Chapel, where artwork from King Edward’s School VI will be exhibited.

Refreshments will be available throughout the day, except during the hour scheduled for the talk. There will be no charge for refreshments, though donations are welcome. This arrangement means there will be no need for volunteers to handle any cash or change.

FoSOC would greatly appreciate volunteer support. If you would like to volunteer, please contact them via their new website: https://fosoc.org/
