Southampton Demonstrations: Key individual networks (KINS) update from A/Inspector Richards, Southampton North Neighbourhood Policing Team – Monday 2nd March 2026
Posted by Highfield Residents' Association on Mar 2, 2026 in News | 0 comments“Good morning,
Two protest‑related events took place this weekend, on 27 February 2025 and 1 March 2026.
On 27th February, a small demonstration was held outside the Highfield House Hotel, involving both protestors and counter‑protestors. The event ran from approximately 1700–1820 hours and passed without incident.
On 1st March, an assembly and procession began in Portswood and concluded in Southampton City Centre, involving both protestors and counter‑protestors. Both groups followed their agreed routes, and disruption to traffic and the wider community was kept to a minimum. Officers used dispersal powers early in the event to prevent any escalation of tensions or anti‑social behaviour, resulting in three non‑local individuals being dispersed. There were no arrests, no injuries, and the event concluded safely and in a controlled manner by 1545 hours.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and act proportionately to uphold both public order and civil liberties. Where legal thresholds are met for the application of further conditions or enforcement, these powers will be used appropriately.
