“Michael was a consultant paediatrician at Southampton General Hospital/Princess Anne from 1983 -2018, becoming full time in neonatology from 2001. He had a particular interest in the provision of postgraduate training and education in neonatal intensive care and developed national and international education programmes for both nurses and doctors in this discipline.
After retirement he continues as a visiting professor in the School of Health Sciences at the University of Southampton and has pursued a medico-legal interest, as well as becoming a member of the Donna Ockenden National Inquiry team into the maternity services at Shrewsbury and Nottingham.
In 2022 he became a medical adviser to the legal defence team for Lucy Letby and heard the presentation of the prosecution evidence in her first trial from October 2022 until May 2023. However, although he wrote reports for all 17 cases, he was not called to give evidence.”
