An update on the children’s play area by The Cowherds on Southampton Common

The information below came from SCAPPS (Southampton Commons and Parks Protection Society) who received an update during one of their regular meetings with Officers for parks maintenance and park improvement projects:

“Residents may have seen the play area by The Cowherds is fenced off. Notices will be posted on site explaining why. The play equipment was installed 10 years ago and because the play area is so popular, some equipment is worn out. Residents also know of problems with water pressure affecting the water play installations.

Contractors should be on site next week and work completed within 3 to 4 weeks, the aim is to have it reopened by the start of the school holidays. Work includes replacing the zip-wires and missing/worn out swings, redoing the ‘toddler’ area near the kiosk, and installing new water supply and new pumps for the water play.”
