Over the past week, we’ve seen two further protest events, indicating a possible trend with Wednesdays emerging as an alternative day for gatherings across the city.
On both occasions, we received reports of offences which are now under active investigation. We remain committed to protecting the right to peaceful protest, which is a cornerstone of democratic society. However, where behaviour crosses into criminality, we will take robust action and seek judicial outcomes.
We continue to monitor developments closely and will keep partners updated as appropriate.
Our local policing teams will continue to attend all planned protests and conduct high visibility patrols and engagement with residents, businesses and licensed premises in the area.
The next planned protest is Friday 3rd October.
We continue to urge the community and our partners to report any ongoing concerns or incidents of note via the below channels so they can be appropriately addressed. Please support prosecutions by providing early evidence by way of a statement, photos and video evidence if you have it, the latter of which can be shared via a DEMS link we can share with you. Your help is vital in securing convictions against those who go beyond the realms of peaceful protest.
