Southampton Demonstrations: Key individual networks (KINS) update from A/Inspector Richards, Southampton North Neighbourhood Policing Team – Friday 21 November 2025

“Dear Kins,

I am writing to inform you of a planned protest expected to take place on Friday, 21 November 2025, outside Highfield House Hotel from 1700 hours.

We anticipate attendance from both demonstrators and counter-protestors. Please be assured that we continue to listen to your concerns, as well as those of local businesses and the wider community. Our approach and response are being continually reviewed before, during, and after each protest to keep everyone safe and address any unlawful behaviour, while facilitating lawful protest. Where offences occur, we will investigate and take appropriate action.

The police remain firmly committed to upholding the rights enshrined in Articles 9, 10, and 11 of the European Convention on Human Rights—namely the freedoms of thought, expression, and peaceful assembly. However, after careful consideration of the balance between individual rights and the need to protect the wider community, dispersal powers under Section 35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 have been authorised in advance to assist with any actions that fall outside the scope of lawful expression.
