I wanted to provide you with an update regarding recent protest activity in the Portswood area.
Although earlier information suggested that no further protests were planned until after Christmas, a demonstration took place on 12th December 2025 outside Highfield House Hotel.
The demonstration involved both protestors and counter-protestors. Officers were present throughout, and Section 34 dispersal powers had been pre-authorised to assist in managing the situation. Three individuals were dispersed and instructed to leave a designated area, and one arrest was made. This investigation is ongoing.
We continue to monitor the situation closely and remain in regular contact with community representatives to ensure a balanced and safe approach to any future gatherings.
A proportionate policing plan remains in place, and we will continue working closely with you and the wider community to manage these events effectively and maintain public safety.
