I am writing to provide an update regarding recent protest-related activity in the Portswood area.

On Friday 16th January 2026, police resources were deployed in anticipation of the weekly demonstration outside the Highfield House Hotel, involving both protestors and counter‑protestors. Officers were present throughout the event, and proportionate policing powers were exercised where necessary. This included implementing restrictions on the use of PA systems and sound‑amplifying equipment to balance the lawful right to protest with the need to minimise disruption.

Following every event, all available footage is thoroughly reviewed so that any incidents or offences can be appropriately dealt with.

We continue to monitor the situation closely and remain in regular contact with community representatives to ensure a measured, safe, and balanced approach to future events.

A proportionate policing plan remains in place, and we will continue to work collaboratively with you and the wider community to ensure these gatherings are managed safely and effectively.
