A murder investigation is underway after we were called just before 11.30pm to reports of an altercation having occurred in Belmont Road.
A murder investigation is underway after we were called just before 11.30pm to reports of an altercation having occurred in Belmont Road.
It was reported two men had been assaulted by an unknown man.
Officers attended the scene, and located the group, where it was identified the unknown man had suffered a serious injury to his chest.
Sadly, the man – who at this time remains unidentified – was pronounced dead at the scene.
Our teams remain at the scene today, and will be conducting enquiries in the area, including additional patrols.
As part of our initial enquiries, a 22-year-old man, 26-year-old man, 51-year-old man, and 52-year-old woman, all from Southampton, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
They remain in custody at this time.
Investigating officer DCI Rebekah Bartholomew said: “I understand this news and the road closures we have in place will be concerning for local residents, and I want to thank you all for your understanding and patience while we carry out our enquiries.
“We are in the early stages of our investigation, and my team are working hard to piece together the exact circumstances and understand the moments that led up to the call to us.
“At this time, I believe this to be an isolated incident, but if you do have any concerns then please do not hesitate to speak with officers who will be in and around Belmont Road throughout the coming days.”
