“A dispersal order has been put in place on Portswood High Street this afternoon and will remain in place for 48 hours until 3.04pm on Friday 7 August, following reports of anti-social behaviour in the area.
Officers have been conducting regular patrols on the high street and are now introducing the order to provide additional powers to deal with incidents more effectively. The order allows officers to direct individuals to leave the area and not return for a specified period of time.
Inspector Yozanne Richards said: “We know the impact that anti-social behaviour can have on residents, businesses and visitors, and we want to reassure the community that we are taking these concerns seriously.
“Portswood High Street has been the subject of ongoing reports relating to excessive begging, street drinking, drug-related activity and other behaviour that causes nuisance, alarm and distress. The introduction of this dispersal order provides officers with additional powers to tackle these issues and prevent further incidents.
“Our officers will be patrolling the area, engaging with the community and partners and taking action where necessary.
“We want Portswood to be a safe and welcoming place for everyone who lives, works and spends time here.”
