August Nature Notes from Friends of Portswood Rec – ‘A Butterfly Bonanza in 2026!

“Butterflies rarely sit still, but here with a selection of Denise Long’s splendid photos you can appreciate the great diversity of size, shape and colouration of some of the species that have been spotted at the Rec in recent years. The butterflies clearly appreciate the opportunity to feed on pollinator-friendly flowers too.

It’s been, relatively speaking, a butterfly bonanza in 2026. Can it last? Almost certainly yes. All of us with access to a garden or balcony can help sustain populations with a few simple steps, and you can read about these too in Denise’s article.
