It is with great sadness that we have been asked to let you all know that Andy Curtis passed away 31 December 2023.  Many of you knew him as he has been a part of our Memory Café community for a long time.

His family invite you to attend his funeral on 23rd January at 12 o’clock.  Please contact caraway@caraway.uk.com for more information if you would like to attend.

Monday 08 January
Dementia Care Hub Monday Group:  Totton and Eling Community Centre, Totton, SO40 3AP. from 10:30 – 12:30pm. Social group providing warm and friendly expert support to people living with a dementia. Come and enjoy conversation, a cuppa and homemade cake!

Veg out Café @ October Books:    October Books, Portswood High Street, SO17 2NF, from 12-3pm. Vegan food, pay as you please.

Music for the Mind – Songwriting:  Planet Sounds (opposite the Co-op), 40 Terminus Terrace, SO14 3FE from 1.30-3pm. SoCo Music Project presents a free fun and social Music-Making Session for all abilities.  Places are limited for more details, please email mark@socomusicproject.org.uk.

Mayfield Nursery – Walking Group:  Mayfield Nursery, Weston Lane, Weston SO19 9HL, from 11am-12 at Mayfield Nurseries Entrance.  Feel the benefit of the outdoors and connecting with nature in a supportive environment.

Tuesday 09 January
Music for the Mind – Vocal & Instrumental:  Planet Sounds (opposite the Co-op), 40 Terminus Terrace, SO14 3FE, from 1.30-3pm. Music Leaders are Katy Hooper and Hayley McDonnell will explore mindfulness, meditation techniques through singing inspired by sounds and rhythms from around the world.  SoCo Music Project presents a free fun and social Music-Making Session for all abilities.  Places are limited for more details, please email mark@socomusicproject.org.uk.

KES @ Avenue St Andrews:  Avenue St Andrews Church, The Avenue, SO171XQ, from 2.30-3.45pm for a Multi-generational club providing activities and Friendship, brought to you by Communicare working in partnership with King Edwards VI School and Avenue St Andrews Church.  Suggested donation £3

Monty’s Majors:  Monty’s Hub, SO19 0QB, from 1.30-3pm.

Supper Club:  Make & Brew Café, St James Road, SO15 5HE. 5.45pm (prompt) 3 course meal – sign up by previous Sunday donations charity per month.

Wednesday 10 January
Bitterne Memory Café:      Ascension Church, Thorold Road, SO18 1HZ, from 2.30-4.30pm. With Live Music & a good old catch up this New Year.  All are welcome whether diagnosed or not, do come along and meet with others going through similar experiences over tea, coffee, cake and friendship.

Wednesdays @ Holy Saviour Bitterne:  Holy Saviour Church, Bursledon Road, SO19 7LW.

  • Omega Café:  Drop in anytime from 10 until 12. Free tea, coffee, cake, and chat.
  • Armchair exercise:  Starts at 10am for about 25 minutes. Led by a qualified instructor; light exercise whilst still sitting! Donations welcome.
  • Omega Lunch: At Midday. Normally soup & roll but on the 2nd Wednesday of the month something a bit more like a soup, ploughman’s or jacket potato. Donations welcome.

Health Walks in Southampton, Riverside Park Walk:  Meeting at 12 noon by the noticeboard at Bitterne Park Triangle. Join “Sustrans Health Walk Volunteers” for a gentle, lunchtime walk-and-talk of up to a mile in Riverside Park.  This is a walk for adults pursuing good physical and mental health through walking together.  New people should arrive 10 minutes before the start to meet the Leader and register.

Meeting Place @ October Books:  October Books, Portswood High Street, SO17 2NF, between 2.30pm to 4.30pm.  This is an intergenerational community drop in event, with painting, puzzles, board games and cream tea!

Thursday 11 January
Lordshill Memory Café:     Lordshill Church, Lordshill District Centre SO16 8HY, from 1.30-3pm. Take a walk down memory lane with January’s London Memory Box and you can join us for the usual  coffee / tea and chat of course.

Thursday Cuppa:  St Mary’s Church, Sholing, SO19 8ES, from 10-11.30am.

Friday 12 January
Coffee and Cake:  St Denys Church, Dundee Road, St Denys, SO17 2ND, from 2-3.30pm.

Singing for Wellbeing @ Hebron Court:  Hebron Court, 46 Rollesbrook Gardens, Southampton SO15 5WB, from 11am – 12.

Saturday 31 January
Southampton Park Walk:  Meet @ the Hawthorns Café, SO15 7NN.  Meeting at the café on Southampton Common at 9am.  The meet point is by the start of park run between 2 oak trees close to hawthorns but not outside it, look for the steward in high vis jackets labelled “Park Walker”.

  • All Welcome! For a gentle 5km walk around the Common, many go to Hawthorns Café for a coffee and chat after.
