Happy Easter from Yellow Door!
A message from Nicci our CEO
|
|
|
With Spring and Easter finally on our doorstep, it has been a busy start to 2026 here at Yellow Door.
The government released their new 10-year Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Strategy in December 2025 ‘Freedom from Violence’, and we hope that this will lead to increased funding for support services and better outcomes for victims and survivors of abuse across Hampshire. It’s encouraging to see that the strategy has a focus on prevention of abuse and tackling misogyny amongst boys and young men. At Yellow Door we continue to keep prevention at the forefront of our work and deliver healthy relationship education through our STAR project providing sessions for young people across Southampton.
On the 8th March we celebrated International Women’s Day, alongside many of our local supporters, businesses and groups. The theme of ‘Give to Gain’ really emphasised the power of collaboration and collective action in advancing gender equality. As a charity supporting women and girls, thank you to everyone that donated, advocated and fundraised for Yellow Door on the day.
And finally, we are excited to share that we are transforming our garden into a purpose built, trauma-informed space for our service users. The project is being delivered by local contractor Build by Just Limegrass and the design created by our service users includes an accessible pathway, new patio and seating, and an area for children to explore and play. We know that having access to nature and the outdoors is important for recovery, mental health and wellbeing, and want to say a huge thank you to our funders for their support with the project – Help to Create Hope Trust, Bernard Sunley, the Wolfson Foundation, and kind donors Alison and Chris who gave a donation to the project following their wedding.

Jo Pearce, Therapeutic Service Manager has written a paper which has been published in the Journal of Child Psychotherapy. The paper traces the development of Yellow Door’s Gender Identity Service over 15 years and demonstrates that this type of group‑based support can play a valuable role in the wider care available to young people exploring or struggling with their gender identity.
This month, one of our Volunteer Counsellors Scott Roberts won “Commissioned Service Volunteer of the Year” at the Hampshire Police and Crime Commissioner Awards. He had this to say:
|
|
|
“The award was a true testament to the work everybody puts in everyday at Yellow Door and not just the counselling volunteers. Without the efforts of every single person, we wouldn’t have a service that has been able to sustain such positive and constructive support for our community. It’s an honour to be a part of this incredible charity and I’m truly proud of everything Yellow Door represents.”

In January, we attended the meeting of local group CAMEO, who chose Yellow Door as their Charity of the Year. They kindly presented us with a cheque for £1300 raised through raffles, donations and events during 2025.
We are extremely grateful to the Highfield WI who have kindly collected a range of delicious treats for us to distribute to our clients this Easter!
Thank you to both organisations for your continued support.

International Women’s Day 2026
We saw so much support for Yellow Door on International Women’s Day this year. On the day itself, Annie and The Barbell Division hosted an event which included workshops, talks, stalls selling art and coffee, and a raffle involving local businesses. They highlighted our services to attendees, and the event raised a whopping £1000 through the team’s hard work and determination.

Fundraising Opportunities
We are delighted to have a team of 12 people who are fundraising and training hard for the upcoming ABP Southampton Marathon in May, where we will have a stand in the Charity Village to tell visitors about our services and root for the runners!
For the first time this year, we have places available for the Southampton Inflatable Event in July, a chance to navigate a course with a huge range of giant inflatable obstacles, slides and tunnels, whilst raising much needed funds for Yellow Door!
Other upcoming events include Walk The Test Way this September or The Great South Run in October. Please email supportus@yellowdoor.org.uk for more information and to get involved.
If challenge events aren’t for you, you can make a big difference to those we support by making a regular monthly donation. £20 a month can help us to change lives by providing much needed support to people affected by domestic and sexual abuse, or other forms of interpersonal harm.

Laura, one of our monthly donors decided to support us further by buying items from our Amazon Wishlist. The keyring making kits and refreshments were given to our Bright Stars young person’s therapeutic group, and a toy tool kit is being used by children and young people during their one-to-one sessions.
