Highfield Community Speedwatch

  • Highfield Community Speedwatch

The Daily Echo recently carried a report of Community Speedwatch success in Chandlers Ford. On 3 August, during the hour between 6pm and 7pm, the volunteer Speedwatchers clocked their highest number of vehicles whose drivers were exceeding the speed limit of 30mph in that location. The group was founded 11 years ago.

Community Speedwatch groups monitor vehicle speeds and pass details of offending vehicles to police, who can issue warning letters to drivers. The nationwide scheme is designed to encourage motorists to slow down and improve road safety in communities.

Simon Fidler, HRA Member and volunteer organiser recently sent this update: “I’ve just heard from April Brown at Hampshire Constabulary that we have three people trained to participate in the scheme but we need another three before we can start.” Bearing in mind that there is to be a 20mph limit introduced across wider Highfield later this year, it would be very useful to have 6 trained members by then.

So this is a further call out for volunteers – can you help? Please contact: HRA.HonSec@gmail.com or highfieldracomms@gmail.com who will pass your name on to Simon. He will then make contact with you to explain the training process.

Simon hopes that sufficient volunteers will be able to monitor the speeds in Church Lane (Highfield Lane and Brookvale Road?) often enough to deter the worst offenders.
