Post protest update – 29 June 2026

“Good afternoon all,

I am writing to provide an update following a planned protest that took place on Friday 26 June outside the Highfield House Hotel.

The event involved an ‘anti-immigration’ protest organised by members of the Southampton Patriots, with approximately 20 participants in attendance. A counter-demonstration was organised by Stand Up to Racism (SUTR), with approximately 30 individuals present.

A proportionate but visible police presence was maintained throughout, with officers engaging with both groups before, during and after the event. Clear expectations were communicated to all parties, which were adhered to.

The protest commenced at approximately 18:00 hours and concluded at around 19:30 hours. Both groups remained static, and the event passed without incident or disorder. SUTR conducted a ‘silent’ protest, while the Southampton Patriots held a largely quiet demonstration without the use of loudspeakers or amplification equipment. This approach helped minimise disruption to the local community.

Following the conclusion of the protest, one arrest was made for assault and a public order offence. This incident was not connected to the protest itself. It occurred when two individuals associated with SUTR were subjected to an assault and racial abuse by a member of the public whilst returning to their vehicles.
