Monday 22 April
Sholing Memory Café: Church Hall attached to St Marys Church, St Monica Road, Sholing, SO19 8ES, from 1pm until 3pm. This week you can enjoy an art based workshop facilitated by MAST Mayflower Engage, inspired by the performance “On the Beach”. For all living with dementia, their carers and anyone concerned about their memory, always with a warm welcome, a smile, a laugh, a cup of tea and cake! Hosts – Rev. Singing By Heart: Hedge End Salvation Army, White’s Way SO30 2GL, from 11.00-12.00 with sandwiches and cake or biscuit and drink after. Singing by Heart is an hour session singing a mixture of Christian songs and well-known secular songs that people with dementia will know and be able to interact with. It includes a Bible verse before each song and a online prayer after each song and ends each session with The Lord’s Prayer. It isn’t a memory café but any after activity such as light refreshments will afford the opportunity to engage fully with our volunteers. Tuesday 23 April
Music for the Mind – Vocal & Instrumental:  Planet Sounds (opposite the Co-op), 40 Terminus Terrace, SO14 3FE, from 1.30-3pm. Music Leaders Katy Hooper and Hayley McDonnell will explore mindfulness, meditation techniques through singing inspired by sounds and rhythms from around the world. SoCo Music Project presents a free fun and social Music-Making Session for all abilities.  Places are limited for more details, please email mark@socomusicproject.org.uk.

Musical Moments:  Snowdrop Place Pavilion Road, Hedge End, Hampshire, SO30 2ZS, drop-in from 2-3.30pm. An afternoon for family, friends, carers and those living with dementia where you can enjoy a safe, relaxed afternoon with an emphasis on using music to enjoy and an opportunity to ask questions and share concerns with others.

Wednesday 24 April
Carers Choir at MAST Mayflower Studios: 144 Above Bar Street #142 Southampton SO14 7DU, 11:30am – 12:30pm. Unpaid Carers Support Southampton invites you to this 5-session Carers singing group is for both beginners and more experienced singers. The workshops will be led by Musical Director, Will Pickering.  There will be a corner of the café for carers after the workshops so you can get to know fellow singers and socialise. A member of the Unpaid Carers Support team will also be on hand in the café for a chat.  Many carers find singing together in harmony lifts spirits, improves confidence and well-being, and strengthens friendship networks amongst the carer community. You can expect to learn a repertoire of musical theatre numbers. Explore harmonies, breathing techniques, and voice skills. But most importantly, have a great time!

Wednesdays @ Holy Saviour Bitterne:  Holy Saviour Church, Bursledon Road, SO19 7LW.

  • Omega Café:  Drop in anytime from 10 until 12. Free tea, coffee, cake, and chat.
  • Armchair exercise:  Starts at 10am for about 25 minutes. Led by a qualified instructor; light exercise whilst still sitting! Donations welcome.
  • Omega Lunch: At Midday. Normally soup & roll but on the 2nd Wednesday of the month something a bit more like a soup, ploughman’s or jacket potato. Donations welcome.

Woolston Friendship Club:  St Patrick’s Church Hall, Porchester Road, SO19 9BD, from 10.15 – 11.30am.  Often joined by children from St Patrick’s Primary School, term time only

 

Health Walks in Southampton, Riverside Park Walk:  Meeting at 12 noon by the noticeboard at Bitterne Park Triangle. Join “Sustrans Health Walk Volunteers” for a gentle, lunchtime walk-and-talk of up to a mile in Riverside Park.  This is a walk for adults pursuing good physical and mental health through walking together.  New people should arrive 10 minutes before the start to meet the Leader and register.

Meeting Place @ October Books:  October Books, Portswood High Street, SO17 2NF, between 2.30pm to 4.30pm.  This is an intergenerational community drop in event, with painting, puzzles, board games and cream tea!

Lordshill Memory Café:     Lordshill Church, Lordshill District Centre SO16 8HY, from 1.30-3pm.

Join us for a Fun singing session and the usual  coffee / tea and chat of course.

CommuniTea Coffee Morning:  Weston Adventure Playground, Kingsclere Avenue, SO19 9QE, from 10am – 12pm for a multi-generational group with activities for children and drinks and chat for adults

Cuppas Friendship Club:  Kings Church, Coxford Road, Lordswood, SO15 5LL, from 10.30 – 11.30am with children from Oakwood Junior School

Fish and Chip Friday @ Mayflower Court:  62-70 Westwood Road, Southampton, SO17 1DP.  Join us for Homemade Fish and Chips lunchtime for elderly members of the community who would otherwise be eating on their own, from 12pm. Spaces are limited so booking is essential, please book by Wednesday lunchtime. Saturday 28 April
Southampton Park Walk:  Meet @ the Hawthorns Café, SO15 7NN.  Meeting at the café on Southampton Common at 9am.  The meet point is by the start of park run between 2 oak trees close to hawthorns but not outside it, look for the steward in high vis jackets labelled “Park Walker”.  All Welcome! For a gentle 5km walk around the Common, many go to Hawthorns Café for a coffee and chat after.
