Monday 18 March
Shirley Memory Café:  Make & Brew Café, St James Road, SO15 5HE.  Monthly every 3rd Monday, from 2-4pm.  Please join the Shirley Team for a Music and Movement Session with FolkActive, alongside the usual chat and treats from Make & Brew.

Asian Family Matters – Chai & Chat:  Vedic Society Temple Hall, Radcliffe Road, Northam, SO14 0PS, from 1 – 3PM.  Please come & join us, to find out about the services available to you, connect with others including experienced advisors, have space to talk about your experiences looking after a family member or personal barrier and find the support you need without the judgement!  This month we have Kate Hough talking about Hearing Loss & Brain Health.

Singing By Heart: Hedge End Salvation Army, White’s Way SO30 2GL, from 11.00-12.00 with sandwiches and cake or biscuit and drink after.  Singing by Heart is an hour session singing a mixture of Christian songs and well-known secular songs that people with dementia will know and be able to interact with. It includes a Bible verse before each song and a online prayer after each song and ends each session with The Lord’s Prayer. It isn’t a memory café but any after activity such as light refreshments will afford the opportunity to engage fully with our volunteers.

Veg out Café @ October Books:    October Books, Portswood High Street, SO17 2NF, from 12-3pm for Vegan food, pay as you please.

MHA Lordshill Friendship group:  Lordshill Community Centre, Cromarty Rd, Lordshill, Southampton SO16 8LX, from 10am—12pm, costs £3

Music for the Mind – Songwriting:  Planet Sounds (opposite the Co-op), 40 Terminus Terrace, SO14 3FE, from 1.30-3pm. SoCo Music Project presents a free fun and social Music-Making Session for all abilities.  Places are limited for more details, please email mark@socomusicproject.org.uk.

Tuesday 19 March
St Denys Memory Café:  St Denys Church & Centre, St Denys Road, SO17 2ND, from 2-4pm.  Please do join the St Denys Team for a trip down memory lane with this months Garden Memory Box and our Carers Corner.

Maybush Memory Café: Potters Court, 538 Wimpson Lane, SO16 4JA, from 2-4pm. Maybush memory cafe hosted by Maggie, where we will be joined by Brian Budden for Live Music and Easter fun.  This cafe is for anyone living with dementia, you will find a warm welcome from our friendly supportive volunteers, advice and other carers learning to live well with dementia.

Music Leaders are Katy Hooper and Hayley McDonnell explore mindfulness, meditation techniques through singing inspired by sounds and rhythms from around the world.  SoCo Music Project presents a free fun and social Music-Making Session for all abilities.  Places are limited for more details, please email mark@socomusicproject.org.uk.

KES @ Avenue St Andrews:  Avenue St Andrews Church, The Avenue, SO171XQ, from 2.30-3.45pm for a multi-generational club providing activities and Friendship, brought to you by Communicare working in partnership with King Edwards VI School and Avenue St Andrews Church.  Suggested donation £3

Inclusive Cinema at the Point – The Great Escaper: The Atrium, The Point, Leigh Road Eastleigh, SO50 9DE, at 10.45.  These inclusive screenings are designed to create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere open to all who’d like to join us. Lighting is a little higher, the sound a little quieter and you can leave the theatre safely at any point with staff on hand to help you. All our inclusive film screenings will be subtitled | Fully accessible for wheelchair users | Free Personal Carer Ticket

Wednesday 20 March
Carers Choir at MAST Mayflower Studios: 144 Above Bar Street #142 Southampton SO14 7DU, 11:30am – 12:30pm. Unpaid Carers Support Southampton invites you to this 5-session Carers singing group is for both beginners and more experienced singers. The workshops will be led by Musical Director, Will Pickering.  There will be a corner of the café for carers after the workshops so you can get to know fellow singers and socialise. A member of the Unpaid Carers Support team will also be on hand in the café for a chat. Many carers find singing together in harmony lifts spirits, improves confidence and well-being, and strengthens friendship networks amongst the carer community. You can expect to learn a repertoire of musical theatre numbers. Explore harmonies, breathing techniques, and voice skills. But most importantly, have a great time!

Wednesdays @ Holy Saviour Bitterne:  Holy Saviour Church, Bursledon Road, SO19 7LW.

  • Omega Café:  Drop in anytime from 10 until 12. Free tea, coffee, cake, and chat.
  • Armchair exercise:  Starts at 10am for about 25 minutes. Led by a qualified instructor; light exercise whilst still sitting! Donations welcome.
  • Omega Lunch: At Midday. Normally soup & roll but on the 2nd Wednesday of the month something a bit more like a soup, ploughman’s or jacket potato. Donations welcome.

Meeting Place @ October Books:  October Books, Portswood High Street, SO17 2NF, between 2.30pm to 4.30pm.  This is an intergenerational community drop in event, with painting, puzzles, board games and cream tea!
Woolston Friendship Club:  St Patrick’s Church Hall, Porchester Road, SO19 9BD, from 10.15 – 11.30am.  This group is often joined by children from St Patrick’s Primary School and is organised by our friends at Communicare.

Friday 22 March
Easter Oasis:  St Denys Church, Dundee Road, St Denys, SO17 2ND, from 1.30-3pm.  Oasis: Come Explore is an opportunity for adults to explore Easter stories from the Bible through art, poems, craft, stories and much more.

Eastleigh Support and Social Drop In:  The Atrium, The Point, Leigh Road Eastleigh, SO50 9DE, from 12.30 – 3.30pm. This social drop in meet is for anyone that has been diagnosed with dementia or are worried about memory loss.  Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served while activities might include arts & crafts, reminiscence, cognitive stimulation games, quizzes, and conversation. Some weeks there are discussions led by guest speakers on topics about health / social care, finance / benefits, wellbeing & coping strategies.

Singing for Wellbeing @ Hebron Court:  Hebron Court, 46 Rollesbrook Gardens, Southampton SO15 5WB, from 11am – 12.

The Haven Lunch Club:  St Mark’s Church, Archers Road, SO15 2LU, from 11am – 2.30pm.

Fish and Chip Friday @ Mayflower Court:  62-70 Westwood Road, Southampton, SO17 1DP, Join us for Homemade Fish and Chips lunchtime, from 12pm. For elderly members of the community who would otherwise be eating on their own. Spaces are limited so booking is essential, please book by Wednesday lunchtime.  To reserve your place or for more information please call Mayflower Court on 02380 670200.

Saturday 23 March
Southampton Park Walk:  Meet @ the Hawthorns Café, SO15 7NN.  Meeting at the café on Southampton Common at 9am.  The meet point is by the start of park run between 2 oak trees close to hawthorns but not outside it, look for the steward in high vis jackets labelled “Park Walker”.

  • All Welcome! For a gentle 5km walk around the Common, many go to Hawthorns Café for a coffee and chat after.
