The University of Southampton ‘Voices’ Community Choir starts rehearsals for the Autumn term from 1.10pm to 1.50pm, Wednesday 1 October in the Turner Sims Concert Hall. All welcome; no auditions

They will be performing ‘Freedom Song’ , which tells “the inspiring story of the Fisk Jubilee Singers”, at their concert at the Turner Sims Concert Hall on Friday 12 December at 7.30pm!

“The Fisk Jubilee Singers were freed slaves. Their mission was not only to build the first black University after emancipation, but to fight for the right of all African Americans to be educated. Working from diaries, historical records and the choir’s own songbook, composer Harvey Brough and playwright Justin Butcher have reconstructed their struggles. The USV choir are joined by a professional band and soloists.”
