SCC Decision on University of Southampton’s Planning Applications to remove trees on the Avenue Campus

17 December 2024

24/00308/TPO and 24/00309/TPO

The decisions for the above two applications have now been made and published.

“… the decisions made were split for both applications – some trees attracted a refusal, some a permission and some of the smaller Ash and Elm were not listed in the TPO and therefore not protected.  Of these, the young Ash were found to be impacted by Ash Die Back (ADB) and the Elms by Dutch Elm Disease.  Due to this I found them not suitable for a new TPO and the University can deal with them as they see fit.

I understand from comments made on the portal that there are some local concerns about the potential development of the site; I would like to reassure you that we will always consider a tree work application based on its own merits and balance that with an Arboricultural viewpoint.”
