HRA has received the following information from Inspector Maidment of Southampton North Neighbourhood Policing Team, with regard to the concerns raised in the HRA Crime information sharing WhatsApp Group about Ceno during the anti-immigration protests:
“Ceno have been visited by the police licensing team. They are not being taken to review at this time. Any evidence captured by the community of Ceno not adhering to the 4 x licensing objectives please forward this to police for assessment.”
Inspector Maidment has confirmed that the 4 licensing objectives are:
-
“The prevention of crime and disorder
-
Public safety
-
The prevention of public nuisance
-
The protection of children from harm.”
“It has to be proved that the licensed holders are deliberately going against these with evidence, not what the community ‘feel’ they should be doing to prevent them.”
“Just because they are selling alcohol to the protestors, it does not mean they are in breach of the above. All I will ask is that if there is evidence of clear breaches or crime, then please send in the footage for our licensing team to review.”
She also said:
“I would urge anyone to send in intelligence through the normal channels in order for us to review the information ahead of each protest.”
Inspector Maidment also made it clear that:
“The police cannot be seen to give favour to one side or the other.”
It is reassuring that no licensing terms have been broken so far. HRA has every confidence in the way the police are managing the situation.
Note – to report / send video footage to the police, use the”normal channels”:
