Anti-social behaviour reporting (extract from HRA E-News December 2024 – 12/12/24)

Anti-social behaviour in Portswood Broadway continues to be reported in the HRA Crime information sharing WhatsApp Group. This ranges from on-street drinking and aggressive attitudes to more serious instances of physical violence and drug use. There is a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) in Portswood Broadway which covers the area between Sainsbury’s and Gordon Avenue. The order is enforced by the Council’s Community Safety Group and warranted police officers. For less serious cases – particularly of street drinking, carrying an open can/bottle of alcohol and drug paraphernalia (for example, needles) left on the street – these should be reported to the Community Safety Group on-line or by phone 07796278434, or by email: Community.safety@southampton.gov.uk

These contacts, however, are only effective in normal hours during the working week as Community Wardens do not work in the evenings or at weekends. Any incidents occurring outside of these hours should be reported to the police (see below).

For more serious behaviours – including any drug use on display or incidents of violence or criminal behaviour – should be reported to the police, preferably in person to the Police Station in St Denys Road (open Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm), by phone to 101 or on-line

To make an anonymous report, phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or go online:

In cases of doubt, both sets of authorities should be contacted.

For violent or serious incidents or risk to life, phone 999.

To report incidents of bikes on pavements or incidents with e-scooters or e-bikes
The advice from the police is that members of the public should not intervene in case riders respond aggressively. All incidents should be reported to the police on 101 or online giving dates, times, locations and descriptions. Videos can be uploaded if reported online. We understand it is important that all incidents are reported as these reports will be included in the area statistics and would attract the necessary funding.Only the Voi rental scooters are legal and there is a proper reporting system in place: use the online form or email: support@voiapp.io or call the 24-hour customer service helpline on 0808 501 5724.All other e-scooters are unlawful and can only be used on private land. With these, police enforcement procedure is education for a first offence. If a second offence is committed, the e-scooter is seized and destroyed.
