From Southampton City Council: A message to our community partners following racially motivated disorder this week (9/8/24) and how to report a hate crime
Posted by Highfield Residents' Association on Aug 9, 2024 in Crime Incidents, News | 0 commentsFriday 9 August 2024
As you’ll have seen from the news, the protest that took place yesterday in Southampton was largely peaceful. We thank our emergency services for their co-ordinated response in keeping our streets safe.
The last week has seen Southampton City Council, local organisations and community groups working together even more closely to ensure that residents were supported during this tense time. Thank you to everyone for their commitment and dedication in ensuring Southampton remains a welcoming city to all.
Ways we can continue to help each other
Please check in with the people you work with to see how they are. This has been a stressful time for everyone across our diverse communities, particularly for our ethnic minority residents, colleagues and partners.
If you become aware of a potential location of violence and disorder, we encourage community partners, in-line with Police advice, to not speculate about this online or in person, as this can cause more anxiety and increase misinformation.
Reporting hate crime
- In an emergency dial 999
- In a non-emergency call 101 or report it to Hampshire Constabulary online
- To make an anonymous report online visit report-it or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
- Report to the Southampton and Hampshire Hate Crime Network using the ‘Love Don’t Hate’ reporting app. To download the app, visit Google Play or the Apple App Store and search for ‘Southampton Love Don’t Hate’
