Last week Southampton North’s neighbourhood policing teams carried out a targeted operation as part of our ongoing efforts to tackle drug supply and its associated criminality, including knife crime.

We focused a lot of our activity around the Lawn Road area as from what you have told us we know that this is a key area of concern for residents.

Police in plain clothes and in uniform carried out seven stop and searches in response to suspicious activity witnessed by officers. This included a group of teenagers wearing balaclavas, despite it being a very warm day, and targeting individuals well known to us as being involved in criminality.

Drugs related activity was also seen taking place on Lawn Road, resulting in the search of a vehicle and Class A drugs being located.

Further suspected Class A drugs were located as the result of the stop and search of a man in his 30s, as well as two mobile phones and around £500 in cash.

Operations like this assist us in gathering intelligence, which helps us to build up a clearer picture of any criminality or issues taking place in a particular area of the city. It also helps us disrupt those involved in crime, by carrying out stop and searches, making arrests where necessary and seizing items being used in crime, such as weapons and drugs.

Drug related activity will not be tolerated in Southampton and we will continue to keep up the pressure on those known locally to us as being involved in drug supply and associated criminality. The support we receive from local people is vital in helping us make our communities safer and every piece of information is greatly appreciated.

Anyone who suspects that drug-related activity may be taking place in their local neighbourhood is asked to contact us by calling 101 or via our online reporting portal: https://www.hampshire.police.uk/ro/report/ocr/af/how-to-report-a-crime/

Every call you make helps us to build a strong intelligence picture and enables us to take positive action and bring offenders to justice.
