The Log of Incidents in and around Brookvale Road as at 5 April 2025 (tabled at HRA Committee Meeting 8 April 2025)

The log is recorded by residents which they attribute directly to the implementation of the Portswood Bus Gate
Scheme. The incidents have been broken down into categories ranging from an unsafe environment for children
walking to school, cyclists and the elderly to increased noise and air pollution from the number of cars that have
increased in number from under 3000 to up to 7000 per day.

Although the 6 months trial for the scheme officially started on 27th January 2025, work started on blocking Russell
Place prior to that date and, hence, some incidents pre-date the trial. The Incident log is actually just a
representation of the true number of incidents but, practically, it has not been possible for residents to spend all
their time recording every single one. However, they do try to capture the more serious events and those they
happen to witness.

One impact they are unable to truly capture is the number of cars speeding. There is now a 20 mph limit on
Brookvale Road but many cars ignore this, especially after being frustrated by slow progress through the road filters,
or on the occasions when the road is clearer. The Council has told residents that they are not responsible for
speeding drivers and tell them that it is a police matter.

Below is a summary of the attached Incident Log as of 5 April 2025. There were 286 incidents recorded up to circa
the time of the last HRA Committee on 11 March 2025. There has been an increase of 60 incidents since then, with the total now standing at 346 as of 5 April 2025.

This log has been shared with the police.
