HRA’s response to the Government White Paper Consultation: ‘Planning for the future’

Over the past month, HRA has submitted lengthy and detailed responses to three current consultations: the Government’s proposals for changing the current planning system, the White Paper ‘Planning for the Future’, and the Housing, Communities and Local Government Select Committee inquiry into the planning system.

In summary, whilst we welcome some aspects of the Government’s proposals (such as the apparently greater emphasis on enforcement, long a big concern here), overall there would be a reduction in the ability of community groups like HRA to have even the present level of influence over local developments. We are also questioning why the Government is pushing ahead on such major changes in the midst of a national crisis.  As always, we are very grateful to Jerry Gillen for his energy and expertise here.
